Democrats have been reeling from defeat after defeat as they’ve tried to take away our Second Amendment rights. But one thing the left keeps proposing has some possibility to succeed and that is initiating massive hikes in fees and taxes on ammunition. And now a Democrat in New Jersey is making this very same push.
Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) recently admitted that he’d like to see fees and taxes heaped so high on guns and ammunition that Americans can’t afford to observe their Second Amendment rights.

Recently Rep. Pascrell introduced a bill that would institute confiscatory taxes on guns and ammo.
Under his Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act, the excise tax on guns would double to 20 percent. For ammunition, he wants an increase from 11 percent to 50 percent.
This isn’t the first time someone has proposed this, of course. The idea has been proposed by left-wing legislators in nearly every state.
In California, for instance, Democratic state Rep. Roger Dickinson introduced a bill in February to impose a 5-cent tax on every bullet!
Worse, in New York State the extreme, anti-gun law signed by the governor contains a provision to create an “ammo registry.”
What Democrats want to do, of course, is put on so many fees, add so many hard to fulfill requirements, and hike taxes so high on guns and ammunition that regular Americans will be prohibited from being able to afford owning a gun.
This will essentially make the Second Amendment null and void.
But Thomas Jefferson told us that this tactic is just as unconstitutional and illicit as directly banning our access to guns. In his Report on Navigation of the Mississippi, 1792 (ME 3:180) Jefferson wrote: “It is a principle that the right to a thing gives a right to the means without which it could not be used, that is to say, that the means follow their end.”
In other words, if you don’t have access to the tools to observe your Constitutional rights, you are necessarily being denied your rights.
This is the same thing that happened to black voters in the Jim Crow south when they were forced to pay high poll taxes to be allowed to vote.
Democrats today want to treat gun owners exactly the same way Democrats treated blacks to deny them their civil rights in the days prior to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
